Minimalist Living

I am contemplating a year (for a start) of no (or few) purchases.

Of downsizing.
Of spending less and saving more.
Gifts given of experiences instead of things.
Or perhaps gifts given that are made instead of bought.

We are moving.
To save money.
To have less to take care of.
To focus more on the things we want and less on the things we don't want.

Simple.

We will be selling things.
Donating things.
Throwing things away.
Trying not to add new things.

Except for one last thing.

This thing we have been talking about getting for a long time,

and he fits right in,

and Cecily (especially) is overjoyed.

Snow Day

Today Camille met the snow.

She was a little concerned about how cold it was at first.

But she warmed up to the idea pretty quickly.

She ran back and forth a few times,

squishing her mary janes into the icy wetness.

Then she jumped!

and she jumped,

and jumped,

and jumped,

and jumped,

and jumped,

and jumped,

and jumped,

and jumped,

and jumped some more.

After that she tossed me a I'm having so much fun look,

and then she jumped some more!

And then she smiled at me.

And then she had this idea...

...her very first snowball ever.

She really liked meeting the snow, but soon her tights were all wet,and her fingers were cold, and her nose was red so we came inside.

Settling down to watch an episode of Curious George or 'hoo hoo ha ha' as she calls it. She cuddled up on the couch with her baby and her night-night the way she does.

Sucking her thumb.

Baby's hair carefully intertwined between her fingers.

Adjusting it every few minutes,

getting so sleepy,

watching,

and watching,

until someone comes in with a bowl of popcorn.

And then Daddy came home and we all went out.

The end.

A Few Captions

When I took the photos recently of the kids at our homeschool co-op I asked some of them to make a silly face.

Some of them hesitated but no one refused. They just did it. They certainly didn't have to. So I was thinking, maybe I'm one of the scary homeschool moms and they were afraid to refuse.

I only know about scary homeschool moms because I was homeschooled and believe me, there were the nice, fun moms and...there were the scary ones.

I mostly avoided the scary ones.

I had pictured putting the photos to a slideshow and quickly running through all the silly faces at the end but the song I ended up choosing was a slower song and also I couldn't figure out how to just speed up some photos and not all the photos.

So instead I stared at the silly face photos and some of them spoke to me.

This is what they said.

And one of my very very favorites.

So obedient those kids. I wonder what I can get them to do next semester?

Smile.

Siblings

Siblings. That's all.
