Weekly Remnants

7/28/11 Thursday

The kids and I went to Granny and Papaw's house for our weekly visit. Camille practiced her walking by walking behind a tiny doll stroller. It's too hot to ride bikes outside so the kids did some school and watched cartoons. I went to a thrift store during nap time and found a straw cowboy hat. I need it for my party tomorrow.

7/29/11 Friday

Today was spent running errands, cleaning, and making food for mine and John's party tonight. We both recently had birthdays and decided to combine our parties. We decided to have a video scavenger hunt and have all the guests come dressed up in costume/or any thrift store apparel. It was fun. Chicken Express doesn't have a spaghetti basket? Good times.

7/30/11 Saturday

Shiloh took Cecily and Silas to the shop today to finish fixing his truck. I stayed with the other girls here at home and cleaned and napped with them. We all ate at Chedders for dinner.

7/31/11 Sunday

I went to Tuesday Morning this afternoon (I know and on a Sunday no less...) with my sister and found some cute storage boxes I really want to go back and get. We shopped around for cell services and then headed home.

We revisited Aurthur and Hopson.

8/1/11 Monday

Pretty normal day here at home. Went thrifting for a bit during karate and the lady gave us two Kewpie babies and one smaller doll for all the girls. Silas got a little toy too. Cecily was upset when I gave her her doll. We have a rule that if you bring in something to the house you have to put something else in the Goodwill box. She argued that since she didn't ask for the doll she shouldn't have to give up something of hers. I told her I would put something of mine in the donate box. Clara said "For me too." Of course,Clara, you too.

This afternoon Camille took a step and a half from my knees to the chair where I sat. She will be walking soon. Then she closed herself in the library and rolled her ball under the door. It rolled back to her. She sat there a while and played ball with herself.

Yoga tonight. "It's a whole new back..."

8/2/11 Tuesday

Today we saw the ninth of ten summer movies for kids at the theater with Missy and her niece Lily. It was open season 3. We went and ate at Chick-fil-a after and went swimming after that. Camille had fun splashing around and was eager to put her whole face in again and again until I figured out she was taking little sips and gave her her sippy cup. I looked into the water next to me at one point and saw Silas swimming under water so gracefully. Big huge arm strokes nice and slow inching closer and closer to the steps. I said to myself "Look how big he is just swimming around, wait Silas? Silas doesn't swim..." and then louder you know to my self "Silas doesn't Swim!!" finally I listened to myself and reached out and pushed him to the steps and helped him up. He was a little upset saying he was scared but he recovered quickly and was fine until the wasp stung his leg.... He really is a beautiful swimmer.

I ran tonight for the first time in a few weeks. I have been walking because I re-injured my legs while training for speed. They felt great and held out just fine during our scorching hot four mile jaunt. I'm icing them now....

g'night!

8/3/11 Wednesday

Karate again today. It's too hot to sit in the van so we went thrifting again. I was inspired by a friend who made a neck tie skirt to give it a whirl. I don't think I would wear a skirt so I'm going to do a purse instead. I found super cheap ties.

It's hot and it's hot. Let's go fall, stop beating around the bush.

Clara left me this message on my computer today: ilufmomsomuch (I think it's cute she doesn't know about the space bar yet)

Cecily left me this one:is it luth frum cecily i love yuo ("Is it lunch? From Cecily I love you") Those dang confusing vowel teams.

I love that they are composing their own messages now.

8/4/11 Thursday

Granny's day. Had a good time. I'm bringing lunch next time. Poor Granny goes all out and it's great but such a lot of dishes to clean. I'm bringing paper plates too.

Cecily received a letter from her pen pal from Harmony Hill today. It was a stick figure drawing of her and her two friends she spent a lot of time with. One of them with sad faces and another with happy faces. It read "I miss you too."

She wrote back right away and said "I can't wait until we meet again."

She is getting so big.

Nice 3 mile run tonight. Thanks to Z for all the core strengthening exercises.

8/5/11 Friday

I stayed at home with Camille today. We were sick and needed to catch up on lost sleep from the night before. My sister took the big kids all day. I watched a movie in the middle of the day. Odd. She seems to be feeling better now and is sleeping in her own bed.

Night!

Weekly Remnants

Hello all! Yes, it's me revisiting my poor neglected blog. I just got Internet at my house again and wanted to start things up again. I hope to do some in between blog posts but defiantly am making it a priority to do my weekly remnants because I like going back and remembering little things about each day. So let's just dive right in.

7/20/2011 Wednesday

I took Cecily and Clara to karate today while the littles napped at Granny's. I took advantage of the time and went thrift store shopping. I found a few great deals! My favorite was a large cabinet that has Cecily written all over it. I have a "wardrobe" redo theme in mind that is right up her Chronicles of Narnia lovin' alley.

After Shiloh got off work we met up at Claire's with our friend John to get Cecily's ears pierced. It's been 14 months since we did this with Clara and she decided it was time to give it a go. While walking in Clara turned around and walked backward a few steps and said with a gigantic smile "My heart is beating hard I am just so proud of Cecily!" She's a sweet girl. Even if her middle child syndrome gets the best of her almost daily. Cecily was so brave. She was nervous but went through with it. She went in with the intention of getting an orange stone which was perfect since November's birth stone is just that but she gave into her red loving self and chose a deep cherry red colored one instead.

We left Claire's and headed to our local theater so Cecily could audition for the upcoming production but she got cold feet and we left. I think she just needs more prep time. Who knows I might audition with her the next time around. I think it would be a blast.

Cecily painted a great picture of her "big eyed" tiger.

Went on a really silly penguin walk with Clara,Silas,Blake,Abbie, and John. When we came home I told Clara to go in and drink some water she responded "I know I'm so starvin' hot!!" Thirsty,I think she meant. :)

Every day I'm reminded how great my kiddos are and I'm entitled to that opinion.

7/21/11 Thursday

Today I took the kids to a birthday party where the candy machine had a hiccough and let the kids take unlimited turns. Which reminds me I need to call and make a dentist appointment soon. We brought the guest of honor and her little sister home to play for a bit after. We had to they have BFF necklaces.

While walking through the mall Silas was lagging behind and Clara turned around and said "Come. On. Si-las." Then looking at me she said with her palms in the air "He is like an inch behind!" I laughed and showed her with my fingers "Clara this is an inch." "Oh" Then quietly "He's like a mile then..."

I went for a regular walk tonight. Right after we put the kids and the chickens to bed.

7/22/11 Friday
Ran a generic errand today with the kiddos. Got coffee. Went across the street to J and M's house to type a paper for J for school. Camille napped while I did this. The bigger kids watched movies, snacked and drew while I typed and J studied.

Gassed up the van. *blech* Worked out with Abbie,Blake and John. We met Aurthur and Hopson while snacking on Chipotle. Funny stuff.

Millie got her eighth tooth at some point. Now if only we had some hair to go with that. :)

7/23/11 Saturday

Preparing for Camille's first birthday tomorrow. Making decorations and food. Cleaning house. Printing photos. Hoping to have enough time to make a smilebox of her first year.

7/24/11 Sunday

Smilebox created! Spent the day doing last minute things for the party. I would say the party was a success! Everything turned our really cute! The cake and pie were delicious. Camille was happy and Abbie took lots of photos. Thanks Abbie! I had video camera failure but I got some on my phone. Can't wait to spend her birthday money for her. ;)

7/25/11 Monday

Birthday money spent! Camille now has a big girl car seat. I know *bor-ing* but it was the most needed thing right now.

We skipped karate today because the kids were swimming in the back yard. We will go to a make up class on Thursday.

We got chickens in the spring and had determined to keep only hens should any of them grow into great mean roosters. We ended up having one rooster that is about as big as a kitten but does a great job of protecting the hens and is content to be hauled around by Silas. We decided he could stay. Today we heard one of our "hens" crow. So I guess we have two roosters. Not sure yet if the second one will stay. He is a bigger breed.

Shiloh went back to work tonight so M,J,and I watched some of the series we recently started. Friends across the street are fun!

7/26/11 Tuesday

We played hookey from school today. The day was a bit cooler and the kids were able to play outside some. I cleaned out my van so I could install Millie's new seat. I didn't like the way it sat (not much reclining) so I packed it back up and listed it on Craigslist.

Went on a 2.7m walk with M,J,and A. We talked about a new training schedule. We are getting ready to run a 15k. Sounds daunting.

7/28/11 Wednesday

The girls opened a painting studio behind the library chairs and painted about a million pictures for me and sold them for coins. Any kind.

Pretty basic day. I took the kids to karate and actually went in to watch cause the littles didn't fall asleep in their seats on the way there. The girls are improving nicely.

Met with some friends in the evening. Had some slightly deeper than normal conversations.

Weekly Remnants

8-9-10 Monday

Getting used to being home with the kids...all four of them. I'm haven't braved going out on my own yet with all of them. But in an attempt to keep the house clean without having to do to much actual cleaning an outing might be in order this week.

Clara took a bath in the kitchen sink and put soap in my coffee cup just before I refilled it. It tasted nice and clean when I got to the bottom after I drank most of it.

I got in my very first order from Briar.Claire today. Matching pink flowers to decorate my children with. I'm in love. I wonder who will support my new Etsy shopping addiction...?

I took note of today's date and made sure to notice what I was doing on 8-9-10 at 11:12 pm. I was watching the 4400 with Shiloh and holding sweet baby Camille in our big black recliner.

8-10-10 Tuesday

Since I don't always log in and blog every night I don't remember much of this day...

8-11-10 Wednesday

Today I couldn't take another day at home alone with the kids so we ventured out. This was my first time to go out with everyone by myself. We went to Chick-fil-a and used our free breakfast coupons. The kids played and I drank coffee and held Camille and tried to pretend it felt completely normal to be in charge of four kids in public. Like I did it everyday. I didn't make any mistakes except for leaving my keys in the ignition, luckily I didn't lock the van.

After they tired of playing we went to the dollar tree to find some work bookish activities to call "school" so when we stay home they will be entertained. We found lots. I found out Cecily could work double digit addition problems...who knew?

We went to the shop to kill the last bit of time before nap time and hung out there just a bit while Camille ate.

In the evening after Shiloh came home he dropped me and Camille off at the grocery store and took the other kids to move a truck at the shop so no one would steal our new trailer full of wood for the new fence.

8-12-10 Thursday

I made funny photos of Camille. (They will appear on this blog...eventually)

Silas fell asleep wondering something...

Today was my Granny's birthday. We went to her house for cake and chocolate covered strawberries. I had only strawberries. All my girls were in pink and so was Granny so we took this photo.

8-13-10 Friday

Today the kids and I went to the birth center here in Sherman where my midwife works for a photo shoot. Mostly I sat and talked with another new mommy of a 5 week old baby boy who they thought was a girl before he came out while Silas impressed us with his forward rolls and Cecily showed off her whining skills. Then after everything was all staged we sat where they told us and they snapped a few photos for their website and some brochures. Cecily was excited of the possibility that she may be on the Internet and so journaled about it at school time. I guess she doesn't realize that she already is on the Internet. See?

Things took a little longer at the birth center than expected so they fixed us a snack and we threw around ideas for bumper stickers for midwives while we snacked. "Midwives help people out" is one they already have on their cars. I think it's pretty funny. And recently I saw a maternity shirt that said "Good things come to those who mate" I got a giggle out of that one and thought it might make a good bumper sticker.

Shiloh and I scored a sitter tonight and had big plans to go furniture shopping. We didn't realize the furniture store closed at 6 so we went to Cheddars and had salads instead. I noticed that when Shiloh carried Camille in her car seat her head bobbed around a bit so we went to Target to get a head support to,you know, de-bob her head. They didn't have a great one so we came home and watched the 4400.

8-14-10 Saturday

Because of our not so successful furniture shopping trip on Friday Shiloh's mom agreed to come and keep the big kids while we tried again. Furniture shopping is a huge job. We looked and looked and got really hungry so we went to take a break at Chipotle but we reassured our salesman that we would come back. I'm not sure he believed us. We talked about the furniture possibilities and went back to make our purchase. In all our ten years together we've never had a real comfy couch so we bought two to make up for it. Also because that's what we wanted. :) We also have our eye on three matching beds for the girls.

8-15-10 Sunday

Today we took Camille to her first church service. She stayed awake the whole service just looking around. I think that is a record awake time for her so far. I decorated her up fancy in one of her new flower headbands and still one sister asked "Is that a girl?" :) Another sweet lady held her while I ate. I thanked her and she said "That's OK it got me out of dish duty" I told her we would be back next week if she didn't want to wash dishes again.

8-16-10 Monday

Hmmmmm....no clue.

8-17-10 Tuesday

My sister came with her kids to play this morning. After they left it rained so the kids put on their bathing suites and got to play outside for the first time in a very long time. They made mud and "washed" my van. Then they rinsed it off and it did look cleaner. They had Karate so I had them come in and shower. They made it to class but they all had dripping wet hair. As soon as we came home Cecily and Silas went back out to play in the water and I took Clara and Camille to the grocery store.

8-18-10 Wednesday

We had another play date today with a family from church. Then we went to Braums for ice cream. Cecily got orange sherbet Clara chose peppermint and Silas had tractor kind (green). Shiloh and I had fruit cups. Not "fruit cups" (banana splits) but actual cups, you know with fruit in them.

Cecily Reading

While doing a reading lesson with Cecily tonight things became quite silly. She was kind of spacey and not really paying attention. When she sounds out a word she likes to use it in a sentence and after reading 'for' the sentence went something like this.

"She brought lots and lots of pretty fuzzy purple beautiful paper..." here she trailed off not really finishing her sentence. Just as I was raising my eyebrow and looking over wondering if she realized she didn't even use the word 'for' she trailed back on finishing up quickly "...for to use as wallpaper!"

We giggled and then moved on. She is so silly.

Cecily and I were talking about growing a garden. More specifically growing hay. To make hay bales to build a straw house, you know like pig number one. She was coloring away when she got really excited about the possibility of growing things and she said "We could grow stuffing!" Smiling at Shiloh I asked "Do you mean cotton?" "Oh yeah cotton I mean." Then she added "Nooooo we better leave that up to the farmers"

Weekly Remnants

Sunday April 18 2010

Today we finished up a weekend long slumber party with my sister and her four kids. Shiloh was out of town trying to catch a shark on Padre Island and so Kandice and I hung out here trying to rid the house of all beverages you could consume hot. We also hung up 48 little plastic birds on my bedroom wall. Yes, folks it is as fun as it sounds.

When they were gone I took the kids to McDonalds for dinner and some playtime before bed. I took in an Adelle Davis (ironic I know) book to read while they played. There were some rough boys and the kids were too scared to play so we had a tiny ice cream cone and opted to rent a movie to watch instead. We rented Kit Kitridge but when we got it home it was cracked so we read a chapter of The Silver Chair instead (again).

Monday April 19 2010

Today when lunch rolled around I discovered we were out of food so we went again to McDonalds. I know. Yuck. When we got home we saw the mailman just leaving so I checked the mail while the kids ate on the porch.

I received a letter from an attorney stating I had a debt of $2300.00 that I needed to pay now (or else). I didn't recognize the debt as my own and so began the process of getting my identity back. They should invent something like a nine digit number that only you know to use to prove you are who you say you are. What's that? They already have that? Well, it doesn't work very well. I will receive a copy of the original application for this credit card I supposedly opened in four to six weeks and then maybe I can determine where this identity thief lives. Somehow.

The girls had theatre workshop today and Silas and I met Shiloh to get an inspection sticker on my van. I figured since I have two out of town trips to make this week I'd better not chance the ticket for a two month out of date sticker. Silas bought Peanut Butter M&Ms from the vending machine while we waited. The cashier made a copy of Shiloh's insurance for me since for some reason I didn't have one. Good thing I didn't chance that ticket. I would've gotten a tow as well as a ticket and been left stranded on the highway with three children and their car seats.

Shiloh made the kids spaghetti when he got home from work since I am having one of those can't-walk-by-the-end-of-the-day days. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I had to run across the yard to rid Silas of a fire ant. A fire ant that he actually rid himself of just after I ran across the yard. But still I had to run because in the event of a fire ant attack you don't know until you get across the yard if it is one ant or a hundred. All you hear is the there-is-a-fire-ant-on-me cry. Which is similar but different somehow from the I'm-about-to-vomit cry. Luckily today it was only one ant. Still I can barely walk much less run. Anyhow can't wait till chiropractor day.

Tuesday April 20, 2010

Shiloh left town again early this morning to go to a business seminar in Dallas. Since he got up early I couldn't go back to sleep and so I thought it would be a good time to put the seashells and "diamonds" that I bought into the sandbox for the kids to discover later. Cecily woke up and I was caught. I told her I was working on a surprise for later.

We went to the grocery store and when we came home I let them dig in to the sand. Their shouts of joy and exclamation at discovering the hidden treasures soon turned into shrieks of protest and yells of "that's mine give it back!" They were grounded from the sand and treasures the rest of the day.

I had them nap in their rooms and then we went to karate class in the evening.

They earned their white stripes on their belts.

I spent my first night ever at home alone with the kids. Don't worry I set a booby trap by the front door in case someone came in that way.

Wednesday April 21, 2010

Today Clara came running into my bedroom asking for the video camera. I gave her my phone to record what was so funny and all three came running in with a video a few minutes later. Clara had filmed the end of Cecily changing Silas' dirty diaper. They were all giggling so hard. I don't know what possessed Cecily to do that but when she carried it to the trash somehow the giggle boxes opened and wouldn't close.

Listening to Clara play eeny meeny miny moe between her ranch dressing and her honey to see which one she wants to dip her chicken in.

Lemonade

How to set up and run a successful lemonade stand.

Step one:Go to the store and get supplies. We got lemonade, napkins, supplies to make the sign, water bottles and glow sticks. At home we already had popsicles and ice.

We also got these pinwheels to draw attention to ourselves from the street.

Step two:Make the lemonade so it can start getting cold in the fridge. We each poured in some lemonade mixture and then we stirred and stirred. Silas might have dipped in his finger for a quick taste. Mommy said it was OK that it was bound to happen and it wouldn't hurt anything because we all washed our hands.

Step three:Wait until Silas is napping and then get our all the sign making supplies. We also made hats so we would look like real "sellers".

Step four:Take everything outside and set it up just in time for school to let out so we could catch the "customers" walking home from school. Our little table fit perfectly in the shade of our family Bradford pear tree. It was nice because it was our only shade in the whole front yard. Daddy planted this tree when I was born and we became a family of three. It's grown a lot and so has our family.

Mommy put up messages on facebook and blogger and she texted our friends to tell them to stop by. Lots of our friends came!

We poured and poured. Lots of people bought popsicles too but everyone loved the glowsticks. We sold everything for one quarter each.

When buisness was slow we hung out with these girls from the neighborhood and played duck duck goose.

At the end of the day when we were so tired we convinced these customers to give us a wagon ride. Don't worry they are friends of Mommy and Daddy.

We had a lot of fun and earned over $25.00 to donate here. Everyday we ask Mommy if we can set up another stand and when she says no I put on my pouty voice and say "But Mommy, I want to earn money to donate to the children!" She dosen't change her mind though.

By Cecily (wink)
